Our Commitment

We aim to use resources wisely, prevent avoidable waste and manage residual waste responsibly.

Guiding principle: Use resources wisely, prevent avoidable waste and manage residual waste responsibly.

Environment & Resource Management

Purpose

These guidelines promote the responsible use of resources and the safe, lawful management of waste across JIL’s offices, events, training activities, project sites and other operations under its control.

Environment & Resource Management

Guiding Principles

Reduce

Avoid unnecessary consumption of paper, energy, water, packaging and other materials.

Reuse

Extend the useful life of equipment, supplies and materials where safe, hygienic and appropriate.

Recycle

Separate and recycle suitable waste where reliable facilities and approved service providers are available.

Dispose responsibly

Ensure residual waste is handled and disposed of in accordance with applicable requirements.

Prevent pollution

Take reasonable steps to prevent spills, littering, uncontrolled discharge and inappropriate disposal of hazardous or electronic waste.

Environment & Resource Management

Operational Guidelines

  • Use digital documents and communications where appropriate to reduce unnecessary printing.
  • Switch off lights, equipment and utilities when they are not required, subject to operational and safety needs.
  • Use water and consumable materials efficiently.
  • Avoid unnecessary single-use items and excessive packaging where suitable alternatives exist.
  • Separate recyclable and non-recyclable waste where practical.
  • Ensure hazardous, electronic or other special waste is handled by suitable, authorised providers where required.
  • Keep offices, work areas and project sites orderly and free from avoidable waste accumulation.
  • Follow site-specific environmental and waste-management instructions.
Environment & Resource Management

Procurement and Supplier Engagement

Where practicable, procurement decisions should consider durability, repairability, resource efficiency, packaging and end-of-life disposal. Suppliers and contractors are encouraged to minimise avoidable waste and comply with applicable waste-management requirements.

Environment & Resource Management

Records and Responsibilities

Project leads should maintain proportionate records of significant waste streams, disposal arrangements, incidents and corrective actions on larger or higher-risk engagements. Employees and contractors must follow the requirements applicable to their work.

Environment & Resource Management

Review

These guidelines will be reviewed at least annually and updated as JIL’s operational scale, project requirements and available waste-management services evolve.
